PitchWars 2017- #Pimpmybio

Welcome Mentors, Mentees and those who are just plain curious! My name is Gina, and this is my #PitchWars 2017 #pimpmybio page.

Allow me to introduce myself.

My greatest accomplishment is being the Mom of four wonderful kids. Everything else is icing on the cake for me. With ages ranging from 23 to 8, to say they keep me busy is an understatement. While it may be tiring, it’s the best job I’ve ever had.

The hard cold truth is I write the stories my brain tells me to write. *HINT* My brain doesn’t know about a crazy little thing called genre. To date I have completed an NA Fantasy, a YA Thriller, an MG adventure, an Adult Fantasy and an Adult Sci-Fi.

I once compared my brain to Willy Wonka’s factory, but I think Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates might be more on target. When I sit down to start a new book, you never know what you’re gonna get.

  • I was a Star Wars girl before it was cool
  • I’m an INFJ
  • Game of Thrones and Walking Dead fan

    ****** MY 2017 PITCHWARS SUBMISSION******

This year I’m entering my Adult near future Sci-Fi novel. The boundaries of technology and science are pushed with grave consequence in this Frankenstein retelling set in a frigid underground bunker during America’s second Civil War. The working title is:

Looking forward to making new writing friends, Mentor Twitter teasers and making this story even more bad ass than it already is through revisions. You can teach punctuation, you can’t teach work ethic. Whatever the outcome, I’m committed to work hard on this project until it’s perfect.

And to all the brave souls who read this to the bottom, thank you.

#PitchWars Bio- Gina Urso- 2016

The inside of my head is very similar to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory; it’s a terrifying, fantastical, amazing place to be with characters you can’t forget. (Gene Wilder or Johnny Depp, take your pick, I loved both!)

I would love to tell you that my ideas come in pretty blue packages with white ribbons.Screen Shot 2016-06-30 at 1.15.40 AM…but they don’t!

Characters of all genres whisper (and shout) their stories in my ear and I write them down to keep them from running on a continuous loop through my brain.

(Drum Roll Please)-**UPDATE- The manuscript I am sending into the #PitchWars arena is THE DEVIL’S BOX

!Screen Shot 2016-03-03 at 9.53.14 AM

THE DEVIL’S BOX. Dark YA psychological thriller. (think teenage Dexter)

As the only survivor of a bloody home invasion that left her family dead and her brother Carson’s body missing, eighteen-year-old Jersey is well aware she has become a special kind of crazy. To make sense of the tragedy, she has convinced herself that Death spared her for a reason; karmic cleansing. She was chosen to rid the world of as many bad people as she can.

Her damaged subconscious isn’t without creative flair. She has resurrected Carson into a mental projection only she can see. He acts not only as her colorful partner in crime but keeps her on task with her dark purpose serving as a painful reminder of how much she lost. When Jersey meets a young man named Kyle, a police officer’s brother, she finds herself consumed with thoughts of him in a way she never imagined. Carson vehemently disapproves.

Forced to meet in secret, falling for Kyle is incredibly inconvenient, but she begins to wonder if a normal life might be possible and questions how many murders she must commit before her debt is repaid. When a hit doesn’t go as planned and a new weapon of choice becomes available, the moral dilemma gets harder as she struggles not only to stay alive but remain one step ahead of the law.

As Jersey and Kyle’s worlds tragically collide, she must choose between the life she should have had and the life she was violently reborn into.

What I’m hoping for in a Mentor and eventually an Agent: First and foremost, someone who isn’t put off by the darkness of this book. I’d love to find a partner who is as excited about this story’s uniqueness as well as Jersey’s haunting, albeit twisted, strength. I crave guidance and support.

What I can offer in return: Unbridled enthusiasm, limitless ideas and passion for the craft. A mind completely open to revisions. My utmost respect and thanks. Best of all, I’m a wicked cook and baker so there will be food involved.

Getting to know me in 16 points or less

  1. I have four children ranging from 22 – 7. (My oldest is a Marine!)
  2. I run my own company so I’m a mild-mannered, unassuming adult by day and a super writer by night.
  3. I have 3 english bulldogs, 7 chickens, 8 rabbits, 2 ducks, 1 sugar glider, 2 birds and fish. (No I’m not kidding!)
  4. I am married and living in the suburbs of Chicago.
  5. I survive on a steady stream of coffee.  No foamy drinks. Medium blend, cream only.
  6. I love to travel.
  7. I love visiting anything ridiculously old or rich in history when we travel, i.e., Pompeii, Acropolis, etc.
  8. I love to read about as much as I love to write.
  9. I am a great cook and I am humbled by good food, going to ridiculous lengths to get something I enjoy.
  10. I had a book published in my early 20’s but that went South when the publishing house shut its doors in the middle of the night never to reopen again. I’m pretty sure the whole thing was a scam but I have paperbacks with my (maiden) name on them and I did a Barnes and Noble book signing so there’s that.
  11. I believe in ghosts, the afterlife, angels, karma and soulmates (but not in the traditional way.) Call me crazy, but one day I’ll write a book about all that too!
  12. I have two bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Journalism.
  13. I love the heat. The hotter the better. I whine a lot during winters here in Chicago.
  14. I’m a Walking Dead freak and will admit to hours long conversations with other TWD fans as to how we’d survive if it happened to us.
  15. I’m a sucker for a deep love story no matter how odd (Meet Joe Black).
  16. I am carrying on my grandmother’s tradition of hand making sugar eggs for the children in the family at Easter. They are entirely edible and every piece is made by hand.

There you have it. The ten cent tour. Looking forward to this mind-blowing journey and the new friends I’m going to make along the way! Ciao! (Damn I loved Eric Northman!)

The lone survivor of a horrific tragedy, the pretty and enigmatic Jersey McKenna believes she was spared to rid the world of evil. She has worked hard to become a straight A student and remain one of the country’s stealthiest teenage serial killers. You don’t see that on a resume everyday.

When a hit goes wrong she struggles to stay alive and remain one step ahead of the law while choosing between love and the life she should have had or the world she was violently reborn into.

Has it been almost eight months since my last post?  Gasp! It has.  Want to know why?  I have been busy bringing fantastic new characters to life with chapter after chapter of page turning adventures.  Some of the characters are sweet and some are very naughty.  All of them unforgettable and I can’t wait for you to meet them.  2016 is the year.  I feel it!  Agents and publishers prepare to be excited.  You’ve never met anyone quite like me!

Moving Forward

New story, new characters, LOTS of potential.  I have several projects I’m promoting right now but I’ve got a good feeling brewing about my most recent.  Crossing my fingers and toes that this round of agent queries is GOLD!  This one has crazy potential!!!!!  I know it!
